Ministry with LGBTQ

of CLAREMONT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Ministries with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning people and their allies.

STATEMENT of RECONCILIATION

Luke 10:27 says, " ... You shall love God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." In this spirit, we acknowledge that each person is a member of God's family, and a recipient of God's love and grace. Therefore, we members of the Claremont United Methodist Church strive to draw all people into this loving relationship with God, and to be a community which embodies love, reconciliation and justice for all people.

MISSION STATEMENT  (modified September 11, 2011)

As faithful disciples of Jesus and his teachings, we advocate for the full inclusion and acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons and their families in the church and community.

• We publicly extend a welcoming hand to LGBT persons looking for a church home;

• We support a nurturing environment for LGBT persons, their families and allies;

• We provide ongoing education for our congregation and the community;

• We advocate for the elimination of restrictions on clergy in their ministry with LGBT persons;

• We challenge the General Conference to allow LGBT persons to be ordained and appointed in The United Methodist Church.

CALENDAR of EVENTS

RECONCILING CONGREGATION SUNDAY is an annual event with emphasis on a Reconciling theme.  This year's "RC Sunday" is May 20, 2012 at both worship services, ( 9:00 and 10:45 am).  Be sure to attend and be richly blessed.

BUSINESS MEETINGS are held on the first Sunday of each month at 4:00 PM in room 2.   Our meetings are open to all interested persons with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered concerns.

SPECIAL EVENTS:  No Such Thing As A Free Lunch?  If you'd like to learn more about CUMC's Reconciling Committee, or would just like to know about LGBT issues are being  addresses in this church (local and national), please be our guest for lunch on the last Sunday of each month.  Meet with Chairperson Ed Kania and a few members of the committee in the narthex at NOON and we'll head out to a local diner for lunch and conversation.

SUNDAY BRUNCHES usually occur after the first worship service each Sunday at one of the local restaurants.  This is a great time to "get acquainted".  Please ask one of the ministers for an introduction to a Reconciling Committee member.

PROJECTS

The committee is currently in the process of soliciting testimonials from congregants to include in a booklet.  These 'Stories of Sacred Worth' will describe what it means to be part of a church where God's unconditional love is apparent.  Look for stories from parents who wanted a welcoming environment in which to raise their children, from parents of LGBTQ children who needed a church home where everyone in the family is welcome, from members of the LGBTQ community who needed a safe place to worship and serve Christ alongside everyone else.
